NXW Signs Two Joint Development Agreements to Launch Marine Whey™ Globally

April, 10 2025 - Lisbon, Portugal / Tokyo, Japan

Nutrition from Water (NXW), the New Zealand-born company pioneering affordable nutrition solutions from water, announced the signing of two strategic Joint Development Agreements (JDAs) that will enable the global launch of its innovative product range, Marine Whey™.

The first JDA, with Nissei Kyokei, a leading Japanese importer and distributor of high-quality and safe nutrition, marks a significant step forward in expanding Marine Whey™ into the Japanese market. With decades of experience in trading and distributing New Zealand dairy proteins and high-value products such as Fonterra, Nissei Kyokei is ideally positioned to drive the growth of Marine Whey™ in Japan. The two companies are committed to building the Marine Whey™ category through strategic partnerships with leading nutrition, dairy, and food manufacturers across Japan.

The second JDA is with a prominent European dairy nutrition company. This partnership further strengthens NXW’s global presence and showcases the potential of Marine Whey™ across diverse, leading nutrition markets. NXW is working rapidly to scale production from demonstration to full-scale commercial production, moving from kilograms to tonnes, in preparation for the product's market launches.

Federico Duarte, CEO of NXW, expressed his enthusiasm about these partnerships: “We are incredibly excited to be working with Nissei Kyokei to bring Marine Whey to the Japanese market. These JDAs are a testament to the growing global recognition of the potential of Marine Whey. They are also an effective tool to work with our partners, world-class experts in their own markets, to build the Marine Whey category and accelerate demand generation. We are now focused and moving from demonstration production to larger commercial scale, and we look forward to supporting the rapid growth of this category globally starting with our partners in both Japan and Europe, with more markets to come.”

Mr. Kazuo Kumagai, President of Nissei Kyokei, shared his excitement about the new partnership: “Marine Whey presents a truly exciting opportunity for the Japanese market. As a company committed to bringing the highest quality, innovative nutritional products to Japan, we are proud to partner with NXW. We are confident that Marine Whey will not only meet the growing demand for sustainable protein alternatives but also be a natural fit for Japanese consumers for whom ocean organics have been a part of their diets for centuries. ”

As NXW accelerates its production capabilities, the company remains focused on bringing Marine Whey™ to global B2B partners worldwide, leveraging cutting-edge biotechnology to produce this sustainable, nutrient-rich ingredient range from pristine waters.

NXW in this transition has set up global headquarters in Portugal where it has access to world-class microalgae laboratories along with commercial production capacity of 100 metric tonnes per annum of specialised Marine Whey™ ingredients.
